No Trouble in Paradise
I have just returned to the rainy Pacific NW feeling relaxed and rejuvenated from my recent trip to Hawaii, specifically the island of Kauai. Kauai is a little slice of paradise with its lush gardens and tropical foliage. It’s not surprising that its nickname is “The Garden Isle”.
Traveling with Fun Travel Dude and some extended family, we covered all bases on this vacation. Of course, he did a monster bicycle ride from where we were staying in Poipu up to the top of Waimea Canyon and back, and then a hike that involved a lot of mud, but some beautiful scenery up North in Hanalei.
Kauai has so much to offer – Spectacular beaches, great restaurants (I had so much tuna poke that I thought I was going to turn into a fish), unique shopping, and because of its size, is very manageable to get around. We zipped all over the island in our rental car and had a blast exploring little nooks and crannies. One of my “faves” was Glass Beach in Port Allen. This beach is covered in sea glass, shells, pottery fragments, and other little treasures. Be sure and get there early in the morning for the best finds.
Stop by Puka Dog for one of their amazing Hawaiian style hot dogs with mango relish and lilikoi mustard and then head over to Uncle’s Shave Ice for the best shave ice on Kauai.
If you’re looking for a tropical spot to stick your feet in the sand, you can’t go wrong with Kauai. Mahalo……Until next time!
